CLEAR is the architecture: it makes sure the reader gets a real handle on the problem, the moves, and the result. CUES is the standard every piece must meet before it ships. Why Salience multiplies rather than adds: once the substance is verified, making the piece land (the frame, the order, the emphasis) is the editorial act. AI can assist at the clarity floor. It cannot perform at the height. This is why the human editor becomes more valuable, not less.
Biopharma R&D productivity had been flat for a decade, barely recouping capital. The authors needed to explain why, and offer a credible path forward, to R&D leaders who had heard every productivity pitch before. The risk: a sprawling list of "do everything better" that signals nothing.

Life sciences' long, binary R&D cycles create the widest upside-downside forecast spread of any industry, which erodes market confidence. The piece had to convert a soft, much-claimed topic ("communicate better with investors") into something a CFO or IR lead would treat as rigorous and actionable.

Steal thisWhen a subject has too many variables to act on, find the two axes that matter most and let named archetypes carry the rest. Segmentation is a gift to the reader.
AI can accelerate any single R&D step, but bolting it onto a linear stage-gate model does not compound learning. The argument had to move readers from a tools mindset to a structural-redesign mindset, a much harder and more abstract sell, without losing them in the technology.
